Malas & Prayer Beads
Meditation malas and prayer bracelets from Nepal. Most of our necklaces follow the traditional 108-bead length, in rudraksha, bodhi seed, raktu seed, sandalwood, rosewood, bone and semi-precious stones such as agate, onyx, malachite, rose quartz and lava stone.
We also carry Tibetan prayer bracelets, including a turquoise and coral inlay style and adjustable cord bracelets.
Using a mala
A mala is traditionally used to count mantras or breaths during meditation, one bead at a time. Hold it in one hand and move bead by bead with your thumb, starting next to the larger guru bead.
Seed and wood malas
Rudraksha, bodhi and raktu seed malas have a natural, slightly rough texture that is easy to count by feel. Sandalwood and rosewood are smoother and have a warm color.
Stone and gemstone malas
Our semi-precious stone malas include several agates, onyx, malachite, sunstone, rose quartz, lava stone and seven-chakra mixes. Stone beads are heavier and cool to the touch.
Wearing a mala every day
Plenty of our customers wear a mala as a necklace with a peasant blouse or a plain tee. It is a simple way to finish a boho or faire outfit.
Bead sizes
Bead sizes are listed in millimeters, usually 8 or 10 mm. Smaller beads make a lighter, finer necklace; larger beads are easier to count.

What is rudraksha?
Rudraksha are the dried seeds of the Elaeocarpus tree, traditionally used for prayer beads in Nepal and India.
Why does a mala have 108 beads?
108 is a sacred number in Hindu and Buddhist traditions; a full round of the mala is 108 repetitions.
What does 8 mm or 10 mm mean?
It is the bead diameter. 8 mm beads make a finer mala; 10 mm beads are larger and easier to count.
Can I wear a mala as a necklace?
Yes. Many people wear their mala every day.
How do I care for a mala?
Keep it dry, wipe it with a soft cloth, and store it flat so the cord does not stretch.
