Boho & Renaissance Clothing
Hand-embroidered pieces, made in Nepal & India.
Agan Traders is a family business that has made embroidered, hand-dyed clothing in Nepal and India since 2002. Our clothes are meant to be worn hard: walked in all day at a Renaissance faire, danced in at a festival, or pulled on for an ordinary Tuesday.
This page holds everything we have in stock right now. That means embroidered blouses and tunics, long maxi skirts, dresses and corset gowns, razor-cut and patchwork hoodies, Himalayan wool hats, cotton shoulder bags and 108-bead malas. Many styles come in sizes up to 3X, and orders of $200 or more ship free within the US.
Embroidered by hand in Nepal and India
A lot of our blouses, skirts and dresses carry hand embroidery around the neckline, the cuffs or the hem. Because it is stitched by hand, the embroidery on your piece may sit a little differently from the one in the photo. That small variation is the sign of handwork.
Hand-dyed color
Many of our pieces are hand-dyed, so the shade of yours can vary slightly from the photo and from the next one in the stack. Tie-dye pieces vary the most, since every skirt and tank is folded and dyed on its own. If you are matching a top to a skirt, pick colors in the same family rather than expecting an exact match.
Renaissance faire clothing
For faire season, start with our Renaissance and medieval collection. It has corset-laced dresses, medieval embroidered blouses with lace and bell sleeves, gothic and lace maxi skirts, and a few velvet pieces. The simplest ren faire outfit is a peasant or bell-sleeve blouse tucked into a long embroidered skirt. It looks the part, it breathes in the sun, and you can sit on a hay bale in it without a second thought.
Hippie and boho clothes for every day
Away from the faire, most of our customers live in tie-dye maxi skirts, patchwork wrap skirts and razor-cut rib knit tops. Razor-cut is a technique from Nepal: the outer layer of a cotton rib knit is cut in strips so a second color shows through. Patchwork pieces are sewn from many small cotton panels, so no two skirts or hoodies are the same.
Warm layers for cool nights
Our hoodies and jackets come from Nepal. You will find cotton rib knit hoodies, patchwork jackets, fleece-lined hoodies and lamb wool sherpa sweaters. Add a Himalayan wool beanie or fleece-lined mittens and you are ready for a cold campground, a fall festival or the last weekend of faire season.
Bags, malas and finishing touches
Cotton shoulder and messenger bags in patchwork, tie-dye and razor-cut stripes keep your hands free at a market. Our malas include rudraksha, bodhi seed, sandalwood and bone beads, plus semi-precious stones such as agate, rose quartz and lava stone. A mala or a crossbody bag is the easiest way to make a plain outfit feel finished.
Sizes for real bodies
Many of our styles come in sizes up to 3X. Each product page has its own size chart, so compare it with a piece you already own that fits well. If you are between sizes, size up in fitted styles. Skirts with elastic or tie waists are the most forgiving choice, which makes them a safe pick if you are buying a gift.
Shipping, returns and care
Standard US shipping is $15, and orders of $200 or more ship free within the US. Unworn, unwashed items can be returned within 30 days of delivery for an exchange or store credit (an Agan Traders gift card). Refunds are not offered at this time. See our return policy for details. Hand wash in cold water and line dry to keep the hand-dyed colors rich. Iron inside out on low if needed.
